An island of fire and mountains
Ideal for:
Fogo is an island of volcanic and dramatic nature. The island is dominated by the volcanic peak of Pico do Fogo, which rises to a height of over 2,800 m above sea level, and its crater is a symbol of the island's strength and indomitability. Mountains, valleys and volcanic plains create a landscape that is dramatic, wild and at the same time fascinatingly calming.
The town of São Filipe offers a beautifully restored historic center, where colonial architecture blends with Cape Verdean atmosphere. From here, there are often picturesque views of the neighboring island of Brava, which lies just a few dozen kilometers across the ocean and acts as Fogo's silent companion.
However, Fogo also offers long and wide black sand beaches where you can relax and watch the ocean. It is an island for those who seek nature, authenticity and energy, where every step in the mountains, vineyards or valleys reminds you of the strength of the land and the history that has been written here for hundreds of years.
The island is full of life and productivity - the slopes of the mountains grow fruits, vegetables, grapes and coffee, which is known and loved all over the world. Local farmers also produce cheese, which is loved by people all over Cape Verde.
